Furniture, where would we be without it, aside from sitting on the floor. Even though it seems rather (and maybe) (very) simplistic, it's so very much more more than beds, chairs, tables and lamps...
Are you sophisticated or eclectic, shabby chic or urban loft? Even gender or age can be reflected like the man cave or the bachelor pad. Think of pink frilly girl boudoirs, lovely tiny baby nurseries full of hope for the future. Furniture is to design, what paint is to art - a never-ending canvas of concepts. Basically (regularly) taken for granted, furniture is a fundamental part of our everyday lives.
What if someone declared, modern furniture, or mission furniture isn't available? Ridiculous right, but recall It's because of somebody's creative ideas (genius) that such (kind of) furniture exists right off the bat. What was Jetsons futuristic in the Flintstone age is now current (modern) every day fare.
It is incredible with just one or two exquisite pieces one could have Urban modern or French provincial. Furniture reflects our private style, tastes, past, present, even our family history with heirlooms.
Our furniture tells a story...about us! Do we have antiques, mission or craftsman, art deco egg chairs, modern recliners, home cinema? Was that great grannies cook stove that she once used to feed the farm-hands at the (now) antique pine table of 10. Beatrix Potter's solid wood secretary desk she used while she wrote & illustrated Peter Rabbit and her famous children's books. Remember, it is the humble wood rocking chair that consoled many a baby world leader in his/her mama's arms.
Furniture, a silent witness to the happenings of each era, it is an extension of the human condition, creative, inspirational, welcoming, artistic, sophisticated, it reflects us; we can't do without it, and with luck we shall treasure how it articulates our essence, and be consciously aware when selecting each quality piece.
